Thursday, 9 February: 1st annotation due in class
Monday, 20 February: second, third and fourth annotations
due by email jason.simon@ais.edu.vn
Friday, 2 March: (final
draft) eight annotations due to Edmodo
Instructions:
Annotated bibliographies are used in academic research to
collect, summarize and evaluate a list of sources. They provide a reference for
a writer to use in his or her own writing. Rather than going back and rereading
multiple sources, a writer can consult an annotated bibliography for relevant
information about each source.
For this assignment, each of you will choose to research a
topic of your choice, and, instead of creating an actual research paper, will
create an annotated bibliography providing bibliographic information, summary
and evaluation of eight sources related to the topic you’ve chosen. Because
this is academic research writing, your sources should be academic, at least
four of them consisting of articles found in academic journals.
Format:
Each of your eight annotations should be approximately 200
words long and contain the following information:
1.
Citation in appropriate MLA format
2.
Summary (one paragraph) explaining the main idea
and supporting details of the source
3.
Evaluation (one paragraph) describing the
strengths or weaknesses of the source
Grading:
This assignment is worth 100 pts. You will be evaluated on
conventions, MLA format, organization, maximum/minimum word limit and the
effectiveness of each annotation.
Additional
Information:
In class, we will be looking at annotated bibliography
examples and focusing on appropriate language, word choice and sentence
structure for research writing. We will also work on formatting MLA citations
and learning about accessing research databases in the high school library to
find appropriate academic journals.
