Instructions:
A process is a series of chronological (time-ordered) steps that lead to a single result. In science class, you may have learned about the process of photosynthesis in plants or the process of digestion in humans. In history class, you may have learned about the political process that lead to the rise in power of a specific country or to the fall of a specific ruler. In each of these processes, a series of specific events occur in a specific sequence to lead to a specific outcome.

For this assignment, you will write a 2-3 page process essay either explaining to your reader how the specific steps of a scientific or historical process lead to a specific outcome or instructing your reader on how to perform the specific steps leading to an outcome (“how to bake chocolate chip cookies” or “how to change a car tire”).

This essay should be written in a basic five-paragraph essay format with an introduction, body and conclusion (although there may be more than three body paragraphs depending on your topic).

Grading:
Outline (10 points): graded for completion, must be turned in by the end of class
Rough Draft (25 points): must have an introduction with thesis, body and conclusion
Peer Review (10 points): must answer all of the questions with more than “yes” or “no”
Revised Draft (100 points): evaluated using the 6+1 Traits of Writing and focusing on voice, ideas and organization

Additional Information:
This assignment and all others this year should be written in appropriate MLA format. It should be double spaced and written in a 12 point font. It should also contain a running header (last name + page number) on the top right corner of each page and a double-spaced heading on the top left corner of the first page. It should contain a creative title, which should be centered above the first paragraph. The first line of each paragraph should be indented.
